The Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association has decided that the 2023 Tokyo Motor Show will go ahead as planned

2021-06-09

The Tokyo Motor Show will resume in 2023 with a "green and digital" theme, the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association announced on Thursday.
This year's Tokyo Motor Show was cancelled because of the outbreak.

Akio Toyoda, chairman of the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association and president of Toyota Motor Corp., said in an online news conference on Thursday that the theme of the Tokyo Motor Show 2023 represents "a medium - and long-term message for Japan to achieve its carbon-neutral goal by 2050."

Mr. Toyoda said Japan's auto industry welcomed the government's new economic growth strategy.
The government's strategy calls for 30,000 quick charging stations and a fivefold increase in the number of hydrogen refueling stations for electric cars.

But Mr. Toyoda said that simply focusing on meeting targets was not enough to cut carbon emissions significantly.

The Tokyo Motor Show is held every two years.
The 2021 Tokyo Motor Show is the first time it has been cancelled since its creation in 1954.
The 2019 Tokyo Motor Show attracted an estimated 1.3 million visitors.
