Tesla has become Apple's battery supplier

2021-04-02

Apple has teamed up with Tesla to use its Megapack battery to store electricity generated by solar farms in California, the company announced on Thursday.

Apple had announced on Wednesday that it would build a solar storage facility in California, next to California Flats solar installations in southeastern Monterey County, about 100 miles from Apple's Cupertino, Calif., headquarters.
The future could store 240 megawatt-hours of energy, enough to power more than 7,000 homes a day, though the identity of Apple's partners was unclear at the time.

The collaboration between The two companies was first reported by The Verge on Thursday, and according to documents filed last year, The Apple Energy Storage facility project, which was approved by The Monterey County Board of Supervisors in 2020, will consist of 85 Tesla megapacks of large energy-storage batteries that will power Apple's headquarters.
